Co-creating a communications strategy with Ubuntu Network
The challenge:
The Ubuntu Network at the University of Limerick is a community of post-primary educators dedicated to supporting global citizenship education. They recognized the need for a focused communications strategy to better achieve their outreach, communication, and advocacy objectives.
They sought to identify content that resonated with their audiences, determine the most effective communication channels, establish a relatable voice, and build engagement with both current and future contacts.

What we delivered:
We embarked on a collaborative journey with The Ubuntu Network to co-create a communications strategy over five months. This initiative began with an initial discussion where the network expressed an interest in a training workshop, but it evolved into a more comprehensive co-creation approach to maximize their limited budget and learning interest.
We structured the process through:
Three Interactive Workshops: These sessions were focused on discovery, strategic development, and implementation, designed to align closely with the network's goals.
Homework Assignments: Between workshops, the Ubuntu team undertook tasks like conducting audience research to inform their strategy.
Regular Check-In Calls: These calls were used to discuss progress and refine the strategy continually.
The collaborative process led to the development of a robust communications strategy for the Ubuntu Network. Key achievements included:
Clarified Strategic Goals: Clear communication objectives and audience insights were established.
Identified Priority Content: This formed the basis of their future content planning.
Enhanced Team Confidence and Skills: The workshops and tasks increased the network's capability in strategic communication.
“We cannot praise Pickle Jar enough for the help provided in the development of our strategy. It has been a transformative experience for our organisation.
With their expertise and guidance, we developed a dynamic and targeted communications strategy that aligns with our goals and responds to the needs of our target audiences.
Their meticulous step-by-step workshops and check-in calls helped us to gain deep insights into core aspects of our work and clarity around the key messages we want to share. This thorough understanding formed the bedrock of our new strategy which has become a living, breathing part of our day-to-day operations.
We are excited about the future with our new strategy in hand. We are truly grateful to the team at Pickle Jar for their expertise, dedication, and for transforming the way we communicate.”
