The package
Salary: £40,000-£50,000 depending on experience
Pension: NEST pension scheme (see: www.nestpensions.org.uk)
Perks: £1,000 per year personal perks allowance
Working hours: Full time, equivalent to 39 hours per week. We are open to part time working.
Leave: 28 days + public holidays and CEO’s discretionary Christmas closure
Location: Fully remote
Purpose of the role
To lead the Content and Experience Design team and enable our clients to delight their audiences by blending together strategic thinking and planning with creative content production.
Person specification
Essential criteria
Significant experience of working in content-related role, eg as a content strategist or content designer
Ability to think strategically and develop plans, strategies and recommendations
Excellent project management skills
Excellent communication skills, including writing reports and delivering presentations and workshops
Ability to build positive working relationships and communicate effectively with clients and team members
Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with others
Flexible approach and willingness to adapt to new challenges
Desirable criteria
Experience working within the education sector
Experience working within an agency
Specialism within a particular area of content (eg social media, content strategy, accessibility, experience design etc)
Copywriting skills
Key responsibilities
Lead client projects
Design projects, liaising with clients to understand their requirements and ensure projects are realistic and meet their needs
Help our clients to think beyond their existing approaches and understand their needs
Develop new tools and techniques to ensure that Pickle Jar Communications continues to lead the sector with innovative approaches to content and experience design
Effectively manage projects by liaising with clients and other team members to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and meet or exceed expectations
Work collaboratively with the research team to ensure that our research informs our content strategy and experience design work
Work across a number of different client projects, often balancing time between different projects throughout the week
Work flexibility across the company. We are a small team and this means that we all pitch in to support each other and support different projects and initiatives at peak times
Our project work varies depending on our clients’ needs but your work is likely to include:
Developing content strategies for websites, social media channels, and intranets
Conducting stakeholder and audience research (in collaboration with our research team)
Developing brand and campaign strategies
Customer journey mapping
Delivering training sessions and workshops
Working with the team to deliver content, editorial plans, campaign ideas/plans
Business development
Everybody in the Pickle Jar Communications team takes an active role in our business development, marketing and sales activities. As Head of Content and Experience Design you will be responsible for achieving new business growth.
Identify and nurture new prospects, including following up with people after networking events, workshops and training sessions
Help to retain positive relationships with existing clients, identify opportunities to upsell, and work with them to develop new projects
Identify new packages of work and deliverables for the sector, for example by growing awareness and interest in the value of experience design to enhance the student experience
Create and contribute to proposals
Prepare and present at pitches
Contribute thought leadership articles through the company blog and social media channels
Speak at conferences and events to share expertise and insights with others in the sector
Supporting the Pickle team

The company is fully remote. You will be required to travel occasionally to present at pitches, deliver workshops and attend conferences etc.
