Managing scope and expectations: How to make projects less overwhelming

When we realise the scale and scope of our content projects, we also start to recognise everything else that we could—and want—to tackle too. Scope creep is real. And overwhelming.

In this workshop we’ll develop techniques to tackle overwhelm from a project and a personal perspective. Our aim is to equip you with the tactics that will make “enough” an intentional part of the project planning and not something that you scream in exasperation and burnout.

From defining scope, to managing stakeholder expectations and input, to designing achievable audits, and creating realistic rollout plans.

And at the heart of it all, we’ll also reflect on the beliefs and behaviours personal to you that have things go a particular way. We’ll get real in distinguishing when the project itself is the problem, or when it actually might be you. From perfectionism to proving, and so much more… where might you be getting in your own way and piling on the overwhelm?

Blending skills from the worlds of content strategy and ontological coaching, we’ll unlock the overwhelm by taking a look at the project and the people factors.

You will come away with:

  • Techniques for how to identify project overwhelm hot spots and how to plan for them.

  • Methods for managing scope creep and balancing getting it done and doing it well.

  • A new look at your own relationship to overwhelm and projects, and the ability to recognise when your own “stuff” is the thing that’s getting in the way.

Who should attend: This workshop will offer the greatest benefit to folks who want to please everyone but find themselves overpromising in ways that lead to exhaustion and burnout.
